Growing Our Own Food
The Green Team are pleased to announce the completion of our school garden site. This long awaited project was completed by Wood End Park’s dedicated grounds team: John Carroll, Gary Richardson and Ben Mourton.  Well done, team! During the first week back, the Green Team have been busy sharing this news with their peers, promoting the completion of the garden on the school’s first official celebration of Earth Day – this is an international day to promote the protection of our planet.

The Acorns (Upper Key Stage 2 members) have been busy working with Deborah Harvey from the Royal Holloway University on a number of biodiversity projects.  This has encouraged the children to reuse different materials to create amazing items that will encourage helpful mini-beasts around our school.

On Friday 19th May, children created bee homes from old plastic bottles and bamboo canes. These lovely homes were placed around trees at the back of the field, to encourage these friendly pollinators around our grounds; I’m sure they will soon be busy encouraging more flowers and plants to grow.

With all these projects on course for this Summer Term, Wood End Park Academy are well on their way to achieving their next School Gardening Award. Great work team!

They were also introduced to some majestic stag beetles and their larvae, which the Green Team members were excited to talk about and share with their classes.
